Safe Procedural Sedation Course
Course Code: Sed 130619
Medical officers, dentists, and registered nurses providing conscious sedation in environments outside of the operating room including endoscopy, dental, cosmetic and radiological procedures.
The Safe Procedural Sedation Course incorporates e-learning, interactive workshops and immersive simulation activities for a one day hands-on program exploring conscious sedation outside of the operating theatre.
The course content reflects the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) Minimum Standards for Safe Procedural Sedation and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) PS09 Guidelines on Sedation and/or Analgesia for Diagnostic and Interventional Medical, Dental or Surgical Procedures.
• Pre-procedure patient assessment & risk
• Monitoring and practical airway management
• Safe use of drugs and assessing levels of sedation
• Post procedure monitoring and discharge
There is an expectation that participants are familiar with, and have completed Advanced Life Support within the last 12 months. For some sedation providers annual ALS is mandatory. Check with your professional group if this is a requirement for you.
The Safe Procedural Sedation Course can be combined with an ALS program on a separate day which complies with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) standards and comprises both online and face-to-face learning.
