Research and Quality Improvement

Replicating real health environments, the Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre provides a safe and controllable setting for research.  Advanced audio-visual technologies enable recording of simulations with event marking and matrix coding. We provide advice on simulator capabilities, features and measurement tools, as well as providing technical support and scenario design services.

In-situ simulation can support systems and quality improvement activities through the identification of roadblocks and process issues. Interventions and proposed changes can be assessed and modified prior to introduction. These translational simulation activities support patient care improvement.  Our staff have experience in designing and implementing translational simulation.

Usability Testing

It can be challenging to completely foresee or understand how devices will perform in real world settings.  Mistakes can prove costly.  The  Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre can replicate a variety of healthcare settings, teams and events for the evaluation of medical devices and equipment.  Advanced audiovisual capabilities record the simulated events for later review.  Feedback from real clinicians in device use in real settings without patient risk is invaluable in the development process.

New, redeveloped or enhanced facilities can also benefit from simulated process testing in the development process, and staff orientation before going live. The Simulation Centre has expertise in the development, implementation and review of these testing and orientation processes.
